Past projects

  • Drop-in centre: every Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 2pm (and occasionally Saturdays) we welcome visitors, who come for information, advice, support, social contact and help with application for EU Settlement Scheme.
  • Language Classes for children: at present we run language classes in Czech and Portuguese to children from 4 years of age to 13. Children are taught basic grammar, history and culture of the respective countries.
  • English Class for adults: every Monday from 10am to midday we run an English lesson focused on practical and day-to-day language use.
  • Courses in art, cookery, dance and public speaking. We’re looking to expand into providing music workshops to develop skills and promote personal development.
  • Creativity Matters: Sessions led by internationally renounced artist M.F., focusing on help with mental health issues that result from the experiences many of our visitors have been through.
  • Mentoring of young people: COMPAS Charity had developed a bespoke and innovative project called ROGA (Roma of Great Abilities) that aims to inspire young people to access higher education. This project had been now replicated by number of schools in Peterborough and Ipswich areas.
  • Trips: we organise trips to cultural events and destinations, both around the UK and further afield (2 x trips to Disneyland Paris).
  • Theme nights: On Fridays evenings we run theme-specific events, promoting social inclusion as well as English language skills.
  • Events: We organise and run various events throughout the year, from international events like Children’s Day, Women’s Day, Christmas party to small scale events such as cream tea parties.
  • Community Library: there are currently over 400 book and DVD titles in 5 different language. People can either borrow the titles or read it at our study corner.
  • Volunteers: to support the breadth of our work, we engage with volunteers from all walks of life, some of whom are people who have been through our doors as clients themselves.
  • Public relations: COMPAS Charity is often approached to provide expertise and real case-studies to highlight the difficulties faced by Roma people from Central & Eastern Europe.
  • Food bank: donating food (mainly fruit and veg) that is donated to COMPAS by Aldi store.
  • Musical classes: teaching children creating rhythm, rap music and recording their own music.
